Smithfield – Spencer Evander "S.E." Powell, Jr., age 85, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 in UNC Johnston Health Smithfield. Born June 29, 1934 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Spencer Evander and Bessie Jones Powell. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggie P. Seamon, Nealy P. Royall, Margaret P. Lee, and Hilda P. Stanley; and brothers, Chuck Powell, Wilbert Powell, and Hubert Powell. S.E. was a member of Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church for over 60 years.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral with Rev. Joe Ballance officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home just prior to the service.

Surviving are his wife, Clara H. Powell; son, Spencer Evander Powell, III of Smithfield; daughter, Sheila Whitley and husband Stacey of Smithfield; brother, Donnie Ray Powell of Smithfield; sister, Bonnie P. Wood of Farmville; and grandchildren, Wil Whitley and wife Jordan, Alex Whitley, and Spencer S. Powell.
