Roma Brooks Winborne, 85, of Smithfield, NC passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 26, 2022, surrounded by close family. He was preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Romer Winborne, and sister Jean Anderson. Brooks enjoyed a successful 35-year career with Universal Leaf Tobacco Company, retiring early so he could enjoy his family and his grandchildren's many sporting and academic events.  Brooks was an avid golfer, traveler, and beach goer, enjoying the family place in North Myrtle Beach.

Visitation will be at the home, 223 Holding Street, Smithfield, N.C. on Monday, November 28th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 29th, in Nobles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Sims, NC.

He is survived by his dear wife of 62 years, Sandra Johnston Winborne; his daughter, Susan Winborne Verona (Bob); son Steve Winborne; grandchildren, Brooks Verona, Cole Winborne and Brooke Winborne.  Surviving siblings are brother, Gerald Winborne and sisters; Peggy Raper, Helen Walston, Evelyn Galloway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First Christian Church, Smithfield, NC or Nobles Chapel Church Cemetery Fund, Sims, NC.

The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and support staff from Transition Hospice who attended to Brooks in his final days, making the transition to his heavenly home as comfortable as possible.
