Clayton- Ritchie Hale Matthews, age 67, passed away in Cedar Point on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Born in Sampson County on October 2, 1955, he was a son to the late Walon F. Matthews and Lenoyer Nayler Matthews.

Ritchie enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He had a good sense of humor and was a great story teller with many stories to share. Ritchie never met a stranger and was well liked by everyone, he would help you in any way he could. He loved his family and his dogs dearly.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at their home at 2025 Walden Way, Clayton.

In addition to his parents, Ritchie is preceded in death by his son, Michael Glen Matthews.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Teresa Carraway Matthews of Clayton; son, Daniel Lee Matthews (Victoria Pearl Rosen) of Smithfield; brother, Roger Dale Matthews and wife Ruth Matthews of Clayton; and grandsons, Brayden Carraway Matthews and Lucas James Phelps.
