Smithfield - Mary Loretta Carter Huffman, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 28, 2021, in UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. She was born on July, 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Mary Carter in Johnston County. She was a member of Smithfield Church of God for many years and loved serving her Lord. She enjoyed listening to southern gospel music, especially the Gaither Homecoming. She loved the color purple, milkshakes, Facebook, the Hallmark channel, Estee Lauder (Beautiful), and she enjoyed traveling. She played piano and the organ and she was known for being a great listener and confidant. She was a loving wife to her late husband Rev. Reid Huffman, a loving mother to her children and to her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. in the Smithfield Church of God with Reverend Jerry Waters officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

She is survived by her children, Dwight Huffman (wife Linda) of Marshville, Jeff Huffman (wife Candy) of Lexington, Phil Huffman (wife Kim) of Princeton, brother, Dr. Robert Carter (wife Ann) of Burlington, grandchildren, Paul Huffman, Erik Huffman, David Huffman, Jacob Huffman and Mark Huffman, great grandchild, Autumn Karsko, and special friends, Theresa Hicks, Elaine Huffman, and Kathy Jernigan.
