Smithfield- John William Stearley, age 84, passed away at his home in Smithfield on Saturday, March 21, 2022. Born in Clay County Indiana on June 11, 1937, he was a son to the late Melvin George Stearley and Hila Mona Bolin Stearley. John was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield. He was very active in the Salvation Army throughout his life, and also helped build the Boys and Girls club in Selma.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stearley.

A memorial service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM just prior to the service.

John is survived by his children, Mark Stearley and wife Denise; Michael Stearley; Rebecca Stearley Williams; Julia Stearley; brother, Robert Stearley and wife Helen; grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Charles; Casey, Taylor, Lauren, Carson, Evan, and great grandchildren, Julian and Cora.
