Joann Johnson Lane, age 86, died Sunday morning in the SECU Hospice House.  Born October 18, 1934 in Johnston County to the late Starling Cary and Julia Q. Johnson, she was the widow of Ralph Rudolph Lane, to whom she was married for more than 60 years.  Joann and "Doodle" farmed together for many years and were very instrumental in the organization of the Johnston County Farmers' Market.  She was a longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church and in her spare time she loved to sew and make baby blankets for many of her family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Godwin officiating.  Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

"Big Mama" is survived by her children, Debra Ketner and husband Bob of Charlotte, Jackie Warren and husband Robbie of Newton Grove and Randy Lane and wife Teresa of Smithfield; grandchildren, Kari Ketner, Ryan Ketner, Jason Warren and wife Ashley, Emily Rose and husband Dusty, Hannah Warren and Mollie Lane and great-grandchildren, Will Rose and Lane Warren.
