Smithfield – Jane Carraway Lawrence, age 80, passed away at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield on Monday January 2, 2023. She was born in Beaufort County on August 5, 1942 to the late Marvin Carraway and Arah Bell Gautier Carraway.

The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Thursday January 12, 2023 from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Jane is survived by husband of 58 years, David Lee Lawrence Sr. of Smithfield; son, David Lee Lawrence Jr. and wife Heather of Clayton; grandson, Tabor Lee Lawrence of Clayton as well as numerous cousins and close family friends.

Jane was a member at Old Ford Church of Christ in Washington. She was a teacher and guidance counselor for 40 years. Her career as an educator would take her to the towns of Washington, Greensboro, Monroe and Smithfield. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football, baseball and most of all her grandson playing sports.

In Lieu of flowers, we encourage a donation to the Archer Lodge Middle School Library to honor her love of reading and to celebrate her 40 years as a dedicated educator for NC Public Schools.
