Gladys Butler Prince, age 94, of Smithfield, passed away on October 15, 2022 following a period of declining health.  Born in Columbus County on March 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edison and Mamie Strickland Butler.  Mrs. Prince was preceded in death by a son, James Thomas Prince and her granddaughter Carla Leigh Prince Poole.  She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield and a lifelong educator.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 30, at 2:00 pm in Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma with Rev. Steve McElroy officiating.

Surviving are her son, William Everette "Bill" Prince, Jr. and wife Marion Sofield of Virginia Beach, VA; and great granddaughter Hannah S. Poole.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Choir.
