Clifton Carlyle Johnson, age 83, died Sunday, January 31, 2021 in Meadowview Assisted Living Center in Smithfield. Born July 23, 1937 in Johnston County he was a son of the late James and Della Ingram Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elton Johnson, Rayford Johnson, Ober Johnson, Leamon Johnson, and Ernest Johnson; and sisters, Katie Honeycutt, Susan Johnson, and Lorine Daughtry. Clifton was a 1956 graduate of Smithfield High School. After high school, Clifton completed a Bachelor's degree at Western Carolina in 1962. He settled in the Charlotte area and began his teaching career as a middle school science teacher. Clifton retired from the Charlotte/Mecklenburg County public schools after 30 years of service.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson will lie in state from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the funeral home. The public may come by to pay their respects at that time.

Mr. Johnson is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
