Smithfield- Carroll George Redman, age 92, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh.

Born in Decatur County, Iowa on November 15, 1930, he was a son to the late George Sampson Redman and Lila Pearl Saffell.

Lt. Colonel Redman served as a piolet for the Marine Corps for 27 years, and served three tours in Vietnam. Mr. Carroll was also the first Johnston County Airport Manager, and enjoyed working even after he formally retired. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, upland hunting, and boating. He and his loving wife of 67 years enjoyed traveling, and loved to take camping trips all over the United States. Mr. Redman was known as a dedicated grandfather.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, George Franklin Redman; and daughter, Patricia Kay Redman.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Janet Weeks Redman of Smithfield, NC; daughter, Lynne Redman Woodworth and husband Marshall of Chapel Hill, NC; brother, Floyd Redman and wife Betty of Atascadero, CA; sister, Janice Best of Bakersville, CA; grandchildren, Ashley Smith of Chapel Hill, NC; Carly Hudson and husband Charles of Washington, DC; Christopher Holloman of Smithfield, NC; Joshua Holloman of Smithfield, NC; and great grandson, Maddox Holloman of Smithfield, NC.
