Willie Melvin Cooper, age 75, of Old Beulah Road near Kenly died on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Born in Johnston County on May 8, 1934, he was the son of the late Willie Hubert and Stella Rose Cooper. Melvin was a US Army veteran, a retired truck driver for Potter Oil Company and a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.Funeral services will be held Monday at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Walter Blackmon and Rev. Danny Creech officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday in Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma.Surviving are: his wife, Florine Yelverton Cooper; sons, Bruce Cooper of Kenly and David Cooper of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother, Ray Cooper of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Pauline Cooper of Dillon, SC and Faye Peterson of Kenly; one granddaughter, one step-granddaughter, and two step great granddaughters.Condolences may be sent to the family at parrishfh.com.
