Our beloved Wailes Joshua Blalock, Jr. following a long period of illness, peacefully passed away and stepped out to meet Jesus at the Hospice House in Smithfield on November 27, 2025.  Wailes was predeceased by his father Wailes Joshua Blalock, Sr., his mother Electa Matthews Blalock, his step-mother Allie Johnson Blalock, and his sister Patsy Blalock Evans.

Born in Harnett County, Wailes was the devoted husband of Lorna Peedin Blalock for nearly 65 years, and the proud father of Renee (David) and Wailes, III (Michelle).  He was grandfather to two granddaughters, Angie (Tom) and Samantha (Derrick) and four grandsons William (Raedene), Neil (Sara), Joshua and Wailes Joshua, IV.  His legacy continues with fifteen great-grandchildren, Wayne (Keiya), Whitney (Amber), Rebecca, Trevor, Makenzie, David, Sawyer, Joshua, Jr., Sadie, Joseph, Skyleigh, Jacob, Liam, Damon, Roman and two great-great-grandchildren, Elena and Leon.

Known for his unwavering strength, compassionate spirit, and impeccable work ethic, Wailes taught his children the value of honesty, perseverance and fortitude.  He served his country well in the U.S. Navy, and served his church family as Sunday School teacher, mentor and choir member.  The son of a Christian carpenter, he valued the skills his own daddy taught him and carried them with him throughout his life, sharing both Jesus and his woodworking gifts along his journey.

As an outdoorsman, he readily shared his passion for hunting and fishing.  He nurtured his love for the outdoors with his family and built life-long friendships with others who walked alongside him.

He is deeply missed by all who knew, loved and admired him.  A memorial service will be held in his honor at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma on Sunday, January 18th, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
