Stephen Michael Crumpler, age 76, died Tuesday evening in UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. Born October 8, 1946, in New Hanover County to the late J.C. and Mildred Johnson Crumpler, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Johnson Crumpler. Steve was the owner and operator of Steve Crumpler's Logging Company for several years. He was a US Naval Seabee veteran and a member of the Smithfield VFW, VVA, DAV and the American Legion. He was also an active member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the Johnston County Shriners.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, in the Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church, where he attended, with the Rev. Roger Hill officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 just prior to the service. A private burial will take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Louise Knight Crumpler; son, Mike Crumpler and his wife Joanna of Smithfield; daughter, Stephanie Crumpler of Smithfield; brother, Cam Crumpler and his wife Kathy of Hampstead; four grandchildren, Lauren, Adam, Chris and Dale and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to either Hopewell FWB Church, PO Box 429, Four Oaks, NC 27524 or to a charity of one's choice.
