Smithfield - Shirley Braswell Parker, age 79, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Born May 14, 1934 in Johnston County she was the daughter of Edmund and Inez Braswell. She was also preceded in death by a sister Jean Batten. Shirley was known as a great friend to many, including her customers in her hair salon for over 35 years. She graduated from Pine Level High School with the class of 1952. Shirley was very involved with community organizations such as delivering "Meals on Wheels," Silver Sneakers at Health Quest, Relay for Life, and a longtime member of Sew and Share with the Ag Home Extension. She was also a charter member of Sterling Seniors with the Smithfield Parks and Recreation.Funeral service will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 11:00 a.m. at Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 17 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home. Surviving are her son, Tim Parker and wife Hope of Wake Forest; daughters, Darla Peedin and husband Mark of Selma; Vicki Parker and husband Yates of Raleigh; brothers, Bobby Braswell and wife Jenny of Queensbury, N.Y., Billie Braswell and wife Patsy of Fredericksburg, VA., Tony Braswell and wife Nobie of Pine Level; sisters, Joan Wood and the late Chester of Pawleys Island, S.C., Frances Creech and husband Jan of Micro; grandchildren, Mitchell and wife Lexie Peedin, Daniel Peedin, Jacob and wife Amber Peedin, Harrison Parker, Emily Parker, Lindsay Parker, Andrew Parker; great grandchild, Pippa Peedin.Flowers are appreciated and donations may be made to Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church, 101 N.
