Ruby Magdalene Batten Collier, age 88, a life-long resident of Smithfield, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in Greenville, SC. Born in Johnston County on April 26, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Virgan and Alice O'Bessie Sullivan Batten. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nadine Johnson and two brothers, James and Keith Batten. Her husband was the late Lenwood Ray Collier. Ruby was a life-long member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield.A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield.Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Jean Collier Bearden of Greenville, NC; a son, Len Collier and wife Revonda of Laurens, SC; a brother, William V. Batten, Jr. of Newport, RI; five grandchildren, John Phillip Sprinkle, Jeffery Wayne Sprinkle, Lisa Marie Collier Phaneuff, Michelle Elizabeth Collier and Donald Wade Threatt; and eleven great grandchildren.The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma Friday from 6 to 8 PM.Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Free Will Baptist Church, 104 W.
