Robert Eugene "Gene" Woodard, age 91, passed away July 26, 2024, in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born March 31, 1933 in Johnston County, he was the son of Robert and Zettie Woodard. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Stacy Woodard Worley. Gene served in the US Army for 8 years. He served as the driver for the company commander during his time in service. He enjoyed dancing, riding motorcycles and horses. He was a farmer as well as a mechanic. He was well known for servicing transmissions. Gene was a member of Progressive Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Benson Lodge.

A graveside service will be held, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Progressive Church Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

Surviving are his significant other, Pam Keen; daughters, Sandy Washburn Lehman (Dan), Lisa Woodard Coffey (Tripp); sister, Louise Woodard Wallace; family friend, Diane Woodard; 4 grandchildren and several nephews and cousins.
