Smithfield – Robert Odell Thomas, age 94, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Smithfield Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born, July 3, 1930, in Chesapeake, VA, he was a son of the late Houston and Ruth Thomas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Gray Thomas and a brother, W. Olen Thomas.

Bob was a man of faith and devotion to his family, friends, and community. He dedicated over 30 years of his career as an Accountant to the Royster Company and later shared his knowledge and passion for education by teaching and working at Johnston Community College for 23 years.

Beyond his professional life, Bob had a love for poetry, publishing a book that captured his reflections on life and his faith. He was also a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of the Washington Redskins, always cheering them on.

A dedicated member of Selma Baptist Church, he served faithfully as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life - touching the lives of many with his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith.

His legacy of faith, love, and dedication to family and friends will inspire all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on March 15, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Selma Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Selma Baptist Church. A private burial service will be held following the service.

Bob is survived by his wife, Laura Thomas; daughter, Robin Harris and husband Curtis; step-daughter, Sarai Byrd; step-son, J. Neil Byrd and wife Mary Marchè; grandchildren, Casey Marshall, Ryan Thomas Harris and fiancé Ashley, MaryAnna Byrd Barnes and husband Bradley, Abby Byrd, Skyler Allen Estep and husband Frank, and Caris Allen; great-grandchildren, Ford Harris and Whit Barnes; niece, Sandra Thomas Hall; and nephew, W. Olen Thomas, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Selma Baptist Church or an organization of one's choice.
