Robert R. "Bobby" Davis, age 83, of Smithfield passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019. Born in Johnston County on September 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Donnie and Julia Jones Davis.  Bobby was also preceded in death by brothers, Rudolph Davis, Billy Davis, Donnie Davis, Jr. and sisters, Alice Earp and Shelby Wright.

Bobby served in the US Army for 5 years and most of his work career was spent in security and law enforcement.  After his retirement from law enforcement he was employed by Deacon Jones Auto Park in Smithfield.  He was a longtime active member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at 4:00 PM in Sardis Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall on Tuesday from 3 – 4 PM.  Burial with Military Honors will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Fran; children (spouses) Roger Davis, Robin Applewhite (Derrick), Robert Davis II, Gerald Woodard, Christa Phillips, Lori Edwards (Bennie); ten grandchildren (spouses), Samantha Coats (Brad), Michelle Davis, Courtney Applewhite, Anastasia Ronczka (Joe), Derrick Applewhite, Jr., Jessica Allen (Colby), Bradley Barnes, Matthew Edwards, Nicholas Phillips, Aaron Phillips; and one great grandchild Berkleigh C0ats.  He is also survived by three sisters, Louise Canupp, Doris Johnson Julia Ann Larson and two brothers, John Davis and Joe Davis.
