Ruby Raemell Best Hines passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, having lived a full life of 85 years. She was born to Richard and Ruby Best on November 14, 1940, one of four children. The value of family was ingrained in her core, as was finding ways to enjoy life and be happy. As time progressed, she displayed several skills she became well-known for, one being a skilled seamstress.
One of the many highlights of her life was meeting and marrying the man she would create a family with, Linwood “John” Hines, on November 18, 1965. Together, they raised 3 wonderful children. If you were to ask any one of them, they would tell you she was a wonderful, loving mother of whom they have many cherished memories. They would also tell you that she was an even more wonderful grandmother who spoiled her grandchildren every chance she could. One example of many things she enjoyed doing for her grandkids was picking them up from school, and she always had extra snacks waiting when they got into the van.
Raemell had a heart of gold; she loved to help in any way she could. For years, she also enjoyed cooking every Sunday for her family (food was very important). She was especially known for her Red Velvet cake She loved music and loved to dance any chance she could with whomever she could (she was on American Bandstand once in her younger years). Laughter was always present when you were in her company. Another important thing to her was her faith; she was a dedicated, baptized Jehovah’s Witness for over 50 years. As a member of the Selma congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she enjoyed being with her fellow Witnesses on local and even international levels until her health no longer allowed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Raemell was preceded in death by her parents and husband, as well as her siblings Peggy White and Eugene Best.
She is survived by one brother, Allen Ray Best (Linda), and her three children: Tammy Corbin (Billy), Linwood Hines Jr. (Beth), and Lori Hines King. She will also be missed by her 5 grandchildren: Dustin King, Brittany Peele, Noah Corbin, Joel Hines, and Erika James, as well as her 2 great-granddaughters: Parker and Josie Hines. There are also nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who will cherish the time they had with her.
