October 30, 1939 – April 1, 2025
Peggy Jean Hawley, age 85, passed away April 1, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born October 30, 1939, she was the daughter of Rev. J.B. Godwin and Zona Godwin. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Parrish; and three brother-in-laws, Ray Crocker, Steve Parrish, and Everett Thompson.
Peggy was a member of Pleasant Plain Church until her illness didn't allow her to attend. She loved working outside, painting, and planting flowers. Peggy was always writing poetry about her Lord and family. Her family never went to her house without leaving with something. She was a very giving person. Peggy loved her family and will be greatly missed by them.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bobby Hawley; sisters, Joan Thompson and Joyce Crocker (fiancé Rev. Bobby Richardson); brother, Brian Godwin (Deborah); sister-in-law, Sandra Parrish (Frankie); brother-in-law, Jackie Hawley (Judy); special niece and guardian, Michelle Adams; nieces, Christy Watkins (Chris), Jennifer Crocker, Gayle Price (Carson), and Susan Hales (Darren); nephews, Jason Godwin (Nikki) and Doug Parrish (Denise); several great-nieces and nephews, and caregiver, Rae Lynn Quick.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00am, at Selma Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SECU Hospice House, Johnston Health Foundation P.O. Box 1376 Smithfield, NC 27577.
