Mildred Jordan, 97, died at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield on Saturday, July 17 after a period of declining health.  Mildred was born April 23, 1924 in Guilford County to the late Edgar Buddy and Mattie Charles Barbee and was the widow of W. Jennings Jordan, who died in 1996.  She was also preceded in death by siblings Ed, Charles and Georgia Barbee and step-children, Leigh J. Stafford and Will Jordan.

At the age of 2, soon after her mother died, Mildred was adopted by David and Effie Taylor of Four Oaks.  She was a graduate of Four Oaks High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church Smithfield.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Smithfield with the Rev. Lee Colbert presiding.  Visitation will be 30 minutes before the service and 30 minutes after the service.  There will be a private burial in Sunset Memorial Park.

Survivors include:  Robin Jordan of Santa Monica, CA, Lisa S. and Matt Sunderlin of Harrisonburg, VA, Jimmy Stafford of Winchester, VA and several nieces and nephews including devoted niece, Terry Carroll of Four Oaks.  Special thanks to JoAnn Capps, Mildred's caretaker for the last several years.
