Selma – Mary Elizabeth Edwards Thompson, age 87, passed away Saturday May 20, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. She was born in Johnston County on October 31, 1935 to the late Jethro Edwards and Laura Jones Edwards. In addition to her mother and father, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Elvin Thompson; brother, Daniel "D.G." Edwards; sister, Edna Jones.

A private graveside service was held Wednesday May 24, 2023 in Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens.

She is survived by daughters, Diane Edwards and Deborah Caraway; brother, Donnie Edwards; sister, Betty Cowart; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
