Marvin Sanders Stevens, 93, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026. 

Born, April 18, 1933, in Johnston County near Wilson’s Mills, Marvin was the son of the late Carl and Daisy Otto Stevens. He grew up on a farm and later served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956.

Marvin dedicated much of his life to his work as an auto mechanic. In 1959, he founded Westside Garage in Smithfield, where he faithfully served his community for 50 years. Known for his skill and integrity, he earned the trust of generations of customers. He was also a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in Selma. Marvin was a godly man who had a relationship with Jesus Christ and is now in fellowship with our Savior.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Rosa Vinette “Peaches” Stevens; his second wife of 11 years, Eloise Snipes Stevens; his younger brother, Gordon Ray Stevens; and his brother-in-law, Wilbur Michael Jr.

Marvin is survived by his brother, Edgar Stevens of Atlanta, GA; his nephew, Andrew Stevens (Michelle) of Supply, NC; his godchildren, Sheila Whitley (Stacey) and Spence Powell III, both of Smithfield; his stepson, Bill Snipes (Lisa); sister, Betty Fisher; brothers-in-law, Donald Michael, Herman Michael, Johnny Michael, and Bobby Michael; as well as many nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home, family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Marvin will be remembered as a calm, gentle, and humble man. He carried himself with quiet grace, never speaking harshly of others and always willing to lend a helping hand. Gifted with the ability to fix almost anything, he was a steady and dependable presence in the lives of those who knew him. His life reflected humility, service, and unwavering kindness.
