Mark Douglas Evans, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 25, 2026, at his home in Lucama. Born June 23, 1964, in Smithfield, he was the son of James Douglas Evans and Dorothy Ryals Evans. In addition to his father, Mark is preceded in death by his father-in-law, George Gray.

Mark was a farmer through and through. He was a hardworking, reliable, and dependable man who could always be counted on. A true jack of all trades, there wasn’t much he couldn’t figure out or fix. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor, and he was never afraid to speak his mind or tell it like it was. Those who knew him best appreciated his honesty and the way he always remained true to himself. Mark’s faith was an important part of his life. He believed in God, family, and freedom, and he lived those beliefs through the way he served others. He taught Sunday school, served as Sunday school superintendent and church usher, and willingly helped with maintenance and whatever else needed to be done. He gave his time generously and quietly, simply because he believed in being there when he was needed.

Family meant everything to Mark. He was deeply devoted to the people he loved and took great pride in his family. His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. They were the apple of his eye, and around them, his softer and more tender side came naturally. The love he had for them was something that could have been seen in the way he looked at them and the joy they brought him. Mark had a strong sense of right and wrong and lived according to the values he believed in. He believed in working hard, keeping your word, helping others, and doing what was right when no one was watching. As an Eagle Scout, he carried with him a lifelong commitment to service, responsibility, and integrity.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 11:00am at Riverside Independent Baptist Church in Kenly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Rene Gray Evans; children, Daniel Evans (Kristen) and Elisabeth Evans; brother, Steve Evans; mother-in-law, Jean Gray; and grandchildren, Paige and Grayson Evans.
