Leland Raymond Boswell Sr., affectionately known as “Rayvon,” age 86, of Selma, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the comfort of his home on September 8th, 2026.

Born on January 12, 1940, Rayvon was a lifelong farmer whose love for the land began when he was just a kid. Farming was more than a way of life for him—it was where he found his purpose, pride, and joy. From the age of eight until he was no longer physically able, Rayvon worked on the farm, dedicating nearly his entire life to the work he loved. His hands knew the land, and his heart belonged to it. Rayvon was always the happiest in a day on the farm.

Rayvon was a Christian. His faith, strong work ethic, and dedication to his family were values that remained a part of who he was throughout his life.

Above all, Rayvon loved his wife, Bet, more than anything in the world. They were married November 23, 1963. For the past 63 years the life they made together was a bond that was unbreakable and deeply cherished. Looking back at all the memories, the love they shared was like no other.

As a father to his son, Ray, Rayvon was much more than a dad—he was a mentor. He showed Ray the ropes of farming and taught him the ways of the land, passing down the knowledge, work ethic, and traditions that had been given to him. Through those lessons, Rayvon gave Ray the ability to carry on the family farm and the legacy he had spent a lifetime building.

Rayvon was also a proud grandfather to his granddaughter, Jodee, who was very much known to be a “Grandpa’s girl.” Some of her fondest memories are the simple ones—regular trips to the gas station with her Grandpa for a Yoo-hoo and a Long John. Those little trips may have seemed ordinary at the time, but they became treasured memories that will last a lifetime.

And then there is Finley. The moment Rayvon saw his great-grandson, his face would light up. There was a special joy in their relationship that could be seen without a single word being spoken.

Rayvon will be remembered for the life he built through hard work, faith, and devotion to his family. The love he shared with Bet, the knowledge he passed to Ray, the memories he created with Jodee, and happiness shared with Finley are all pieces of a legacy that will continue.

He leaves behind his wife, and love of his life, Betty Boswell; his son, Ray Boswell and wife, Shannon; his granddaughter, Jodee Langdon and husband, DJ; his great-grandson, Finley, and his siblings; Bobby Boswell (Wife, Julie), Edna Mae Langston, Faye Balance, and Lea Ann Etheridge (Husband, Skeeter).

He is preceded in death by his parents; Leland and Voncile Boswell and brother Jimmy Boswell.

Though Rayvon is no longer here to tend the fields he loved so dearly, the seeds he planted throughout his lifetime will continue to grow—in the love he had for Betty, the knowledge he taught his son, in the memories held by his granddaughter, in the bright face of his great-grandson, and most of all, in the hearts of the family who loved him dearly.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who helped care for Rayvon and provided comfort, compassion, and support during his time at home. Your kindness and dedication not only meant so much to Rayvon, but also brought comfort and peace of mind to his family. We will forever be grateful for the care you gave him and the kindness you showed our family.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later time.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Princeton Church for the kindness and generosity shown to Leland and Betty by building a ramp at their home, allowing them to safely and more easily enter and leave their home. This act of love and service meant more to the family than words can express and made such a meaningful difference in their daily lives.
