Kenneth Leroy
May
February 22, 1946 – July 30, 2025
Kenneth Leroy May, 79, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born February 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Russell May and Florence Peele May. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Raper.
Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army and carried the values of service and discipline with him throughout his life. In the late 1970s, he began building boats in his backyard and garage — a labor of love that eventually grew into the founding of C Hawk Boats and later Maycraft Boats. He was a man of many passions: hunting, fishing, and working in the yard brought him peace and joy. He planted trees that will stand as a lasting reminder of his love for the land and his thoughtful nature. Kenneth cherished the simple moments — listening to country music in the garage, drinking coffee at Denny's, hearing the birds sing, and spending treasured time with his grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianne May; son, Kenneth Chad May (Luci); daughter, Laurie Anne Epps (Michael); brothers, Russell May, Tom May, and James May; sister, Peggy Uzzell; and grandchildren, William, Amanda, Walker, Savannah, Sarah-Louise, Waylon, Monse, Nellie, Jose, and Sharya.
Funeral service will take place Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 2:00pm, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service, beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at the Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery. Flowers are appreciated.
