Jerrel Sue
Lee
February 5, 1947 – November 7, 2025
Jerrell Sue "Susan" Oxendine Lee, 78, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. Born in Forsyth County in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Susan spent most of her life in Greensboro and Thomasville before residing in her later years in Greenville, NC.
Susan was a light in every room—a true star whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched countless lives. She had a deep love for Jesus, her children, and her grandchildren, guiding them with grace, prayer, and unwavering belief. Spunky, funny, and classy, Susan was unapologetically herself, inspiring others to embrace who they were with the same confidence and joy.
She never met a stranger. Her genuine kindness, big heart, and ability to make anyone feel special defined who she was. She loved her jewelry, loved to laugh, and loved people deeply. Susan's presence made life brighter, and her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
She was the daughter of the late Bessie Ann Lankford and her husband, Milburn E. Vaughn, and of her biological father, Luther Harold Oxenden. She is survived by her children: Angela Everhart Hodge and Angela's partner, Jesse Alcon; Bryan Lee; and Sheena Lee Day and Sheena's partner, Paula Thrush. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Miranda Noel Lin and Kirsten Hodge Sisk, and Kirsten's husband, Aaron Sisk. Additional surviving family include her sister, Bonnie Collier, and Bonnie's children: Mark Barnes, Tammy Handy, and Jeffery McKay. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Oxenden Aydelette, and Janet's daughter, Kim. The current status of her brothers, Bobby Joe Lankford and Mike Oxenden, is unknown.
A service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on Friday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, in the onsite chapel. Following the chapel service, family and friends will proceed together to the graveside for her final farewell. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations can be made to Parrish Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral costs.
Susan's light continues to shine through every life she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In Loving Memory of Mama
She walked through life with open hands,
Giving more than she ever received.
A heart stitched strong with faith and grace,
In every breath, she truly believed.
Her laughter carried sunshine,
Her smile lit up the dark,
And everyone who crossed her path
Left holding a piece of her spark.
She loved without condition,
She gave without regret,
Her kindness wrote a legacy
We'll never once forget.
Though heaven gained her presence,
And we must say goodbye,
Her love stays wrapped around us still—
A star that never dies.
So when the days feel heavy,
And grief comes like the sea,
We'll look for her in the night sky...
Where her light will always be.
