Janice Annette Riser was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on October 22, 1946 to William Earl Blan and Bessie Ruth Hamilton Blan.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday November 7, 2023 at Smithfield Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in Oakland Cemetery in Smithfield.

She lived in Smithfield, NC until 1960 when the family moved to New Bern, N.C. after graduating from New Bern High School she attended King's Business College. She graduated May 13,1993 from Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, S.C. with an Associate in Business and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Lambda.

She married her husband, David Eugene Riser, in 1967 and they lived in Saluda S.C. until his death in 2002 when she returned to Smithfield, N.C. to care for her mother. She was a long-time employee of Rose's department stores in South Carolina and was the Office Manager of Rose's in Smithfield, N.C.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Earl Blan and Bessie Hamilton Blan; her husband, David Eugene Riser, and a nephew, Daniel Blan.

She is survived by her sister, Esther Bishop of Fitzgerald, Ga; brother Stephen and Vickie Blan of Asheboro, N.C. and David Blan of Selma, N.C.; nieces, Teena Brown and husband Mark Brown, April Blan; nephews, Kenneth Blan, Michael Blan, and Tony Riser; great nieces Kristeena Suarez, Crista Blan, Kayla Blan, Hailey Stiles, Aria Blan; great Nephew, Jacob Blan.
