Smithfield- James Henry Mitchell, age 81, died December 29, 2012 at his home. Born in Johnston County on September 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Lovette and Viola Parnell Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was retired from the Sanitation Department with the Town of Smithfield. He was a member of Crumpler's Crossroads Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Ronnie Massey and Rev. Eddie Moody officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Family Cemetery near Bagley.Surviving are his wife Doris Littleton Mitchell; sons, Danny Mitchell of Mt. Olive, Jackie Mitchell of Clayton, Randy Mitchell of Smithfield and Phillip Mitchell of Clayton; daughters, Diane Penuel of Fayetteville and Judy Mitchell of Smithfield; brothers, Joe Mitchell and Elwood Mitchell, both of Selma; sister, Louise Jones of Selma; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 1 - 2 PM.
