Pine Level – James Edward "Ed" Evans, age 86, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, in the Helping Hands Assisted Living of Goldsboro, surrounded by his family. Born, July 17, 1938, in Johnston County, he was a son of the late James Vernon Evans and Gladys Peedin Evans. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Joyce Brady Evans and his only brother, Charles Vernon Evans.  Ed served his country in the United States Army for two years stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Pine Level V.F.W. Ed worked for 40 years as a salesperson at Jones Brothers Furniture in Smithfield. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting rabbits also. He also liked mowing grass and working in the yard. Ed was a loving papa and he loved attending his grandkid's sports events. He was a loving husband, father, papa and friend.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the burial to follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

He is survived by his son, Darrel Evans (Donna) of Pine Level, daughter, Dee Newsome (Mike) of Smithfield, grandkids; Haley Newsome, Kaycie Langdon (Chris) as well as his niece, Debbie Talton (Mike) of Smithfield.
