Hulen Mac Jones, 80, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at his home on the family farm in Smithfield, North Carolina. He was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and reunited with his wonderful and loving wife, Sandy Abrams Jones.

Mac was born on February 28, 1946, to the late Irving and Violet Jones.

A proud United States Marine, Mac served his country honorably. He was released from active duty to return home to care for his mother and siblings after the sudden death of his father. His dedication, strength, and hardworking spirit continued throughout his life. Mac started his career with W.E. Blackmon Construction where he worked for 20 years before starting his own partnership with Ben Youngblood. In 1998, after 10 years together as Ben-Mac Construction, he ventured on his own and started Mac Jones Construction, where he built more than projects—he built a life through years of hard work and determination.

Mac was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy Abrams Jones; his parents, Irving and Violet Jones; his sisters, Doris Walker, Erma Jean Spicer, and Sue Davis; and his brothers, Tom and Hugh Jones.

Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his two sons, Chris Long and wife Donna, and Matthew Jones and wife Ashley; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Parker, and Kennedy. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews, and special great niece, Katie Walker.

Mac also shared an especially close bond with his first cousin, Ronnie Jones, and his wife, Debbie. Though Mac and Ronnie were cousins by blood, they considered one another brothers. To Mac’s children and family, Ronnie was simply and affectionately known as “Uncle Ronnie.” Their relationship was one of family, friendship, and brotherhood and held a special place in Mac’s life.

Following the passing of Sandy, Mac was blessed to find companionship with Terry Blackmon, who remained by his side throughout the last several years of his life. Her companionship, friendship, and presence brought comfort and happiness to Mac during those years, and she held a special place in his life and heart.

Mac will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, proud Marine, and hardworking businessman. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, dedication, and love for his family. The life he lived and the memories he created will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the entombment to follow in Selma Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to 3HC Home Health & Hospice Care for the compassionate hospice care, kindness, and support provided to Mac and his family during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mac’s memory to the UNC Health Foundation with “UNC Lineberger” on the memo line or at give.unc.edu.
