Horace Gene Evans, age 72 died Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2024 in UNC Johnston Health of Smithfield.  Born January 10, 1952 in Duplin County to the late Thurman Franklin and Ellen Marie Stroud Evans, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Haywood Evans and Frank Evans; sister, Delores Sholar and his son Horace Gene Evans, Jr. who died on February 25, 2021.  Horace and Beth Ann met at S.O.S. in Myrtle Beach more than 23 years ago and continued to attend every year thereafter until recent years.  They enjoyed shagging with friends at local clubs as well, including the Johnston County Shag Club and the Sugarfoot Shag Club.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, 3197 NC 903 in Magnolia with his niece, McKenzie Hicks officiating.

Surviving are his wife Beth Ann Evans; son, Jeffery Evans and his fiancée Christina of Teachey; step-son, Ken Corbett and his wife Crystal of Carolina Beach; step-daughter, Mary-Elizabeth McLeod and her husband Brooks of Smithfield; sister, Brenda Brinkley of San Antonio, TX and six grandchildren.
