Mr. Garry Thomas Newsome Sr., age 76, of Kenly, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Garry was born on June 14, 1949, in Johnston County to the late Raymond Delwood Newsome and Ida Mae Potter Newsome.
A devoted family man, Garry lived a life rooted in love, kindness, and quiet strength. He found great joy in the simple things—spending time with his loved ones,sharing stories, and offering a helping hand to anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, Garry is preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Sylvester Newsome and Donald Ray Newsome, and his beloved great-granddaughter, Briley Kate Stephenson.
He is survived by his son, Garry Thomas Newsome II and wife Tabatha; daughter, Wendy Charoleen Keif and husband Kevin; sister, Betty Lou Riggins; and the mother of his children, Brenda S. Newsome.
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Preston Wilkins,Ashley Newsome Stephenson, Kelsey Wilkins, Heather Parker, and Michael Hardison; and his great-grandchildren: Wayde Peele, Malakai Beard, Jayden MacLean, Bentley Stephenson,Everett Hardison, and Kolbie Hardison.
Garry was a hardworking Christian man with a deep love for both his faith and his family. In 1975, he founded Newsome's Garage in Selma alongside his father, a business built on dedication and honesty.
He formerly attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Selma and studied at Bible college in his younger years, reflecting his lifelong devotion to God.
In his free time, Garry enjoyed fishing, gardening, and "tinkering" —always keeping busy with a project or task at hand. He will be remembered for his steady hands, giving heart, and the legacy he leaves behind in the lives of those he touched.
The family will receive visitors in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
