Smithfield---Freddie Ronald Strickland, Sr., 94, of Vermont St. died on April 11, 2022.

Mr. Strickland was born in Johnston County on November 8, 1927, the son of the late Bud and Pella Woodruff Strickland. He was the office manager for Ideal Oil Company and a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army. Mr. Strickland was a charter member of the Civitan Club in Smithfield, a little league baseball coach, and a Sunday School teacher at both First Baptist Church and Unity Free Will Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Friday, April 15, 2022, at 12:00 noon at Unity Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Jay Summerlin officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the service at 12 noon.

Surviving are: son, Freddie Ronald "Ron" Strickland, Jr. of Greensboro, granddaughter, Jennifer Lane "Laney" Strickland Ford and her husband Michael of Selma, great-grandchildren, Pearce Ford and Lane Ford of Selma, adopted grandchildren, Anna and T.J. Johnson of Smithfield, and Emma Gore of Smithfield.

Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Elizabeth Strickland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Unity Free Will Baptist Church, 104 W. Langdon Ave., Smithfield, NC 27577.
