Elaine Price Woodard “Lanie”, died on May 21, 2026, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Charles Woodard “Jim”, on February 4, 2026.

Lanie was born in Selma, North Carolina, on June 2, 1945, to Sue and Floyd Price, Jr. She was the second of four children.

She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte. As an active Navy wife for twenty years, she was honored to support and care for her family while also pursuing careers in real estate, teaching, and managing Price’s General Store. Her most cherished roles were those of wife, mother, and grandmother.

Lanie's zest for living was infectious and reached many people throughout her years. Her friendships were built on true connection and honesty and included people of all ages and tribes. To paraphrase her life mate Jim, Lanie had an array of friends including cousins, childhood friends, college roommates, military wives, church people, neighbors, friends of Bill....from all over - her best best friends. The relationship between Lanie and Jim was one for the record books - a true love that they each deserved and were grateful to experience.

The relationship between Lanie and Jim was one for the record books — a true love that each deserved and for which they were deeply grateful.

Lanie is survived by her children, James Kirby Woodard and wife Lisa, and Caroline Woodard Cook; and by her five grandchildren, Jimmy, Lulu, and Frances Cook, and Wyatt and Violet Woodard. During the last twenty years of her life, she lived close to her children and treasured being an active part of their lives. She is also survived by her siblings: Gayle Price Van Velsor of Fearrington Village, Flo Price Batten of Wilson, and Floyd Price III of Wrightsville Beach.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery located at 600 Elizabeth St. in Selma, with a reception to follow at Selma Baptist Church.

Memorial donations can be made to Healing Transitions of Raleigh Women's Campus, 3304 Glen Royal Rd, Raleigh, NC 27617.
