Edward Milton Davis, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully in his home on June 4, 2022. Born in Johnston County, North Carolina on December 14, 1935, Ed was the son of the late Rev. Milton Gaston Davis and Addie Massengill Davis. He is preceded in death by his son, Freddie Ray Davis, and his granddaughter, Taylor Addison Davis.

Ed grew up farming in Johnston County. Many of his early memories took place in the field or at hog killings. As an adult, he made a career repairing furniture at Jones Brother's Furniture in Smithfield for thirty-nine years. In addition to his work at Jones Brother's, Ed oversaw the operations of Doris's Daycare with his wife and managed rental properties.

Ed was known for his calm demeanor and good heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially lenient with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A few of his favorite things included Bojangles chicken, sweet tea, a good boxing match, and sharing stories of the past with all who listened.

Ed is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Doris Taylor Davis; children, Edward Davis Jr. and girlfriend June Edwards, Paula Davis, Amy Wells and husband R.G. Wells; sister, Myrtle Jones; grandchildren, Brandi Hinnant and husband Matt, Edward Davis III (Adam) and wife Nikki, Lance Davis and wife Jessica, Hunter Davis, Emily Wells, and Madison Wells; great-grandchildren, Ashlan, Zaida, Maverick, and Emmi Lou Hinnant, Alexis and John Thomas Davis, and Ava and Kyndall Davis.

The family would like to give special thanks to his devoted sister-in-law, Alice Norris, and his caregivers, Elaine Lee, Michelle Staton, Sharon Cox, and Brenda Newsome for their compassion and excellent care.

The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma on Tuesday, June 7, from 12:30PM - 2 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with entombment following in the Price Cemetery near Pine Level.
