Edmond Stanley Laughter, 65, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, at his home west of Smithfield.

He and his wife, Debra, owned and operated Black Horse Farm on Highway 210 near Smithfield.

He was a 1973 graduate of Smithfield-Selma High School, where he played several sports.  He attended Louisburg College and Western Piedmont School of Nursing.  He worked ten years at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh.  Stan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a son of the late James and Cenimae Laughter of Smithfield.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Debra Hallenbeck; a sister, Laura Moore, of Smithfield; and a brother, James Laughter Jr., also of Smithfield.
