Dec 18, 1932 — Apr 10, 2022
Edith Powell Rose Wilkins, 89, known to all as "Edie Pie," passed away on April 10, 2022 at SECU Hospice
House after a period of declining health. Edie Pie was the daughter of Edith Powell Rose and Herschell
Vaughn (H.V.) Rose. She was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, her husband Melvin
Lambert Wilkins Sr, and grandson Joshua Edward Kyle.
Edie Pie was a graduate of Smithfield High School Class of 1951. She continued her studies at
Greensboro College and earned her Batchelor's degree from Wake Forest University.
Edie Pie is survived by her four children, William Andrew "Andy" Wilkins, and his fiancé Dorothy
Johnson; Cynthia Wilkins Kyle and her husband John Richard Kyle, their children Zachariah Aaron Kyle
and his wife Megan, and Whitney Rose Kyle; Edith "Edie" Wilkins Lane and her children Rachel Brown
Cook and her husband Tim, Mary Hannah Lane, and John "Jack" Robert Lane; and Melvin Lambert
Wilkins, Jr. Edie Pie is also survived by her "daughter of choice" Shearer Williams Bridges, her husband
Dub, Kristyn Bridges Lowe and her husband Brian. Edie Pie was fortunate indeed to welcome four great
grandchildren into her busy family.
A lifelong member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church of Smithfield, Edie Pie served for years on the Vestry,
Alter Guild, and on numerous search committees. She gave freely and joyfully of her time and services.
There was seldom an occasion that she refused a call to help her church family, working tirelessly to
ensure that no one was left wanting. She loved horseback riding, often hosting trail rides and gatherings
at the farm cabin. She was an avid Bridge player, and member of several garden clubs. She loved trips
with "The Intrepid Travelers," and cherished the memories made on their adventures together. Her love
for all creatures great and small was evidenced by her many cats and dogs.
Visitation will be held prior to funeral services at the Lawrence Hall, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, on April
20th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please kindly offer donations to SECU Hospice House, Smithfield,
NC.
