Dorothy Casey Proctor, age 94, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Wake County on February 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ivey and Annie Casey. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James Proctor; and her brothers, Ray Casey, Billy Casey, and Danny Casey.

Dorothy grew up attending Little Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of Wilson's Mills Disciples of Christ Christian Church, where she faithfully served as a deacon, elder, and member of the women's club. Dorothy attended the Women's College in Greensboro.

She loved gardening, cooking, and caring for her animals. Dorothy especially enjoyed her beautiful canary birds, as well as her cats and dogs. She and her husband loved traveling together, particularly visiting the mountains and many other locations throughout the United States, and they also shared a love of square dancing. Dorothy was an excellent cake baker and proudly passed her special cake recipes down to Kristen and Paige. She cherished reading to her grandchildren and fondly remembered holding James and Kameron while preparing midnight snacks. Above all, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Vinson's Family Cemetery, located at 160 Stewart Lane, Clayton.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Ann Ennis (Wayne) and Katherine Ellis; grandchildren, David Ennis (Trish), Kristen Hopkins, James "Clay" Ellis, and Kameron Ellis; great-grandchildren, Paige, Tyson, Colin, and Sawyer; her sister, Shirley Maxwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care.
