Doris Davis Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Doris was born on September 12, 1937 in Johnston County to the late Donnie and Julia Jones Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph "Shorty" Johnson; her son, Marcus Vann Johnson; 5 brothers, Donnie Davis, Jr., Bobby Davis, Billy Davis, Rudolph Davis, and John Davis; 4 sisters, Louise Canupp, Alice Earp, Julia Ann Larson, and Shelby Wright; and great-grandchildren, Madeline Page, and Elijah and Ezra Johnson.
Doris worked at Sylvania, Julia's Dress Shop, Walmart, and in her later years, she supported several special families by offering in-house childcare services and considered these children her family. Doris' love for family, her legacy of serving others, and her recipes for homemade jellies, jams, and pickles will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Doris is survived by her son, Kim Johnson (Suzanne); Daughter-in-law, Candy Johnson; brother, Joe Davis of Snead's Ferry; 4 Grandchildren- April Page (Kyle), Matthew Johnson (Hannah), Shane Johnson (Brooke), and Bennett Johnson (Amanda); and 9 Great grandchildren – Jacob, Isaac, Caroline, Stella, and Asher Page, Emily, Paige, Everette, and Ellis Johnson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Tee's Chapel OFWB in the Brogden community. Burial will follow in Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm at the church prior to the service.
Flowers are acceptable, memorials are encouraged and may be sent to Tee's Chapel OFWB Church, 6439 Brogden Rd. Smithfield, NC, or the household closet at First Baptist Church 202 S 4th Street Smithfield, NC, where she volunteered for many years.
