Smithfield – David Richard Norris, age 79 passed away Sunday August 28, 2022 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born in Johnston County on January 15, 1943 to the late Willie T ( Bill) Norris and Viola Sanders Norris. In addition to his mother and father, he is also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Mullis; a brother, Leon Norris.

A celebration of life will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Friday September 2, 2022 at 2 PM with Rev. Larry Hunt officiating. The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 PM to 8 PM. Burial will follow the service on Friday in Oakland cemetery in Smithfield.

Mr. Norris is survived by wife of 31 years, Linda Price Norris of Smithfield; son, David Norris Jr., and wife April of Clayton; daughter, Tammy Carroll and husband David of Clayton; brother, John Norris and wife Wanda of Greer, SC; sisters, Jean Hill and husband Dixon of Clayton, Libby Barnes and husband Ray of Rosewood; grandsons, Dustin Carroll and wife Jennifer, Ryan Carroll and wife Katie; granddaughters, Alexa Carroll and Haylee Norris; great granddaughters, Brooklyn Carroll, Makenzie Carroll and Callie Carroll; pet fish, Lightning.

Mr. Norris was a member of Wilson's Mill's Church of God and a proud Vietnam Veteran. In his time of service to his country he ranked as a Sgt. E 5 and received numerous medals including Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Purple Heart. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to the beach.
