David Clark Campbell, age 78, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Born on April 28, 1947, David was the son of the late Milton and Alice Betts Campbell. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Milton Campbell, Charles Campbell, and Martin Campbell; and his sisters, Maebelle Johnson, Rubelle Jones, Carolyn White, and Katherine Hutchinson.

David always shared fond memories of his childhood growing up with 7 siblings and many nieces and nephews that were like siblings to him. He served in the Korean War in the late 1960's. Returning home, he made a life in Wake County, managing a store called Big Star. In the 1980's, he moved to Selma, operating The Lighthouse and selling cars. He became a devoted father at the age of 41, eventually becoming a grandfather, lovingly called "Pepa, Papa, Grandpa." He answered to them all. He gave all of the grandkids their first sip of soda and enjoyed giving them rides on his mini motorbike. After retiring he started beekeeping as a new hobby. David was a private and reserved man. Many people around town probably didn't know his name but would remember him as giving watermelons from his garden, jars of fresh honey from his bees, and having the bluest, kindest eyes. He will be missed more than he ever imagined.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home.

David is survived by his daughters, Alison Campbell and Holly Wright; son, Danny Shuck, his beloved grandchildren: Marissa McGraw, Trenton Pressley, Maggie Woodard, Nik Woodard, Madison Griffin, Eli Sanders, Brayden Griffin, Mason Shuck, Denver Owensby, Ella Shuck, and Teo Ortiz; and his sisters-in-law, Viola Campbell and Theresa Campbell Oswald.
