Connie McCray Coughlin, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 3, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Born on November 12, 1954, in Smithfield, North Carolina, Connie was the daughter of the late Robert Ira McCray and Mamie McCray. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rusty McCray, and her sisters, Janie Thompson and Judy McCray.
Connie was a shining star who lit up every room she entered. She enjoyed fishing, arts and crafts, treasure hunting, playing pool, dancing, shopping, and drinking Dr Pepper. Most of all, she treasured spending quality time with her family and friends, creating countless memories with those she loved.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, with the burial to follow in Oakland Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home.
Connie is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Robert Coughlin; her daughters, Mysti Underwood (Kevin) of Clayton, Terri Menno (Lenny) of Clayton, and JoDee Hoefle of Morehead City; her sons, Matthew Coughlin (Meredith) of Garner and Joshua Coughlin (Sundai) of Pine Level; her cherished grandchildren, Meghan Underwood, EmaLei Underwood, KayLeigh Menno, Donald Menno, and Freyja Coughlin; her sister, Donna Johnson; her brother, Bobby McCray; her cousins, Wanda Tetrick; her sister-in-law, Linda McCray, niece, Kym Dixon, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family deeply appreciates all the kindness, compassion, prayers, and cherished memories shared during this difficult time. Please join us in celebrating Connie’s life, saying our goodbyes, and sending our love as we honor her next journey.
