Smithfield- Claudette Gurley Lane, age 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in her home of Smithfield, surrounded by her family. Born, May 24, 1941, in Wayne County she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Gurley and Betty Martin Gurley. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Mr. Hubert Lane and brothers; Ernest and Lonnie Ray Gurley. Claudette was a long-time member of Yelverton Grove Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She was also an excellent cook, always providing great food for all the church activities as well as bringing meals to the homes of elderly members of the community. She worked for 43 years as the plant manager at Shallcross manufacturing company. Upon retirement, she then opened her own catering business that she ran, until her health declined. In her spare time, she also enjoyed reading, attending Bible study and sewing. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Yelverton Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall from 2:00 -3:00 p.m.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Lane of Smithfield, nieces; Sherrie Ennis (Jerry), Karen Hemingway (Joe), Betty Goodling, Gayle Evens (Glenn), as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.
