Charles Winston Wood, age 85, of Pine Level, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the SECU Hospice House. He was born on August 26, 1939, in Johnston County to the late Wesley and Lalon Wood. Charles graduated from Pine Level High School in 1958. He joined the Army and served from January, 1962 to 1964. After that, he served with the National Guard until 1968. Charles married Dorothy Faye Wilkins on March 24, 1962 and were married for 62 years. He was employed by Jones Brothers Furniture for 38 years as a salesman. Charles was a faithful member of Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church from 1972 until his passing. He served as assistant Sunday School Superintendent and then as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was appointed as a deacon in 1987 and was chairman of the deacon board. Charles also served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. He was a member of the cemetery committee and member of the choir. Charles was a very devoted Christian man. He loved Jesus and wanted all to know Him. Charles was a loving and kind husband; kind, patient, helpful, and humble dad. He was a man of many talents and never spoke a harmful word towards anyone during his entire life. He was a mentor to his children. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He went to Alaska several times and after his first trip in 1998, he was hooked on the beauty of Alaska.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Yelverton Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Wilkins Wood; daughter, Tami Lynn Wood; son, Woody Dale Wood and wife Kaye Wood; grandchildren, Sarah Christensen and husband Bryan, Zachary Wood and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Amelia June and Julia Beth Christensen; sisters, Janice Creech of Smithfield, Jo Linda Holloman of Smithfield, Catherine Bailey of Wendell, and Debbie Ogburn of Smithfield; and brother, Larry Wood of Selma.
