Carol Annette Eason Hall, 84, of Johnston County, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2026, with her beloved sons by her side.
Carol was born on September 20, 1941, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, to Woodrow Eason and Christine B. Eason of the Cattail Pond community in Johnston County.
She spent her childhood as a typical country girl, helping her mother in the kitchen, caring for household responsibilities, and assisting with farm work. Carol often described herself as a quiet child, though she was once chosen to sing “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” at school—an early memory she not so fondly recalled. During her years at Selma High School, she and her friends watched Elvis Presley make his debut appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, another story she loved to share. She also enjoyed telling the unique story of attending part of high school alongside her mother, Christine.
Carol graduated from Selma High School, an accomplishment of which she was immensely proud. She wore her class ring throughout her life. During her formative years, she attended Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her faith would remain the cornerstone of her life.
After high school, Carol began her career with Nationwide Insurance in Raleigh, commuting each day in her “little English Ford.” There she worked with Crettie Hall, who happened to have a son named Tommy. An introduction led to a courtship, and eventually Carol and Tommy were married. Their marriage brought Carol what she considered the greatest gift of her life - becoming a mother to twin sons, Mark and Merle.
Carol devoted herself to raising her boys, guiding them through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood while watching them grow into successful professionals – a Land Surveyor and Landscape Architect. Anyone who knew Carol knew how deeply she loved her boys.
Carol’s beloved granddaughter, Mary Sandra, brought unmatched light into Carol’s life. Carol spent many happy hours babysitting, entertaining and pouring unconditional love into her granddaughter. She cherished every single moment they shared.
While raising her family, Carol remained an active member of Everett Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton. She taught Sunday School to at least two generations of young married couples and found great joy in helping others grow in their faith. Her dedication to biblical education led her to earn a degree in Bible Studies through the correspondence program of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Later in life, Carol returned to the workforce, first with Cutter Laboratories and later with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, where she processed mailed license plate renewals until her retirement.
In her later years, Carol enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She faithfully attended church, participated in high school reunions, mowed her own lawn, met regularly for lunch with “The Cutter Ladies,” and enjoyed visits with Tammy and Cree at the local post office. Through every season of life, she remained devoted to her family, her friends, and her faith.
As the years passed, health challenges and memory loss became part of her journey. Even so, her love for the Lord and for those around her never wavered. In the early morning hours of June 4, 2026, Carol peacefully entered her eternal home with her sons holding her hands and reminding her that she was the very best mother two boys could ever have. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved tortoiseshell cat, Cassie; her brother, Donnie Eason; her mother, Christine Eason; and her father, Woodrow Eason.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Hall (Christy) and Merle Hall (Renee); her granddaughter, Mary Sandra Kelly (Chris); her sister, Linda; her nieces and nephews, Don (Andrea), Dayle, Darla (Rob), Holly (Vince), Vickie (Howard), Theresa (Stan), and Debra (William); along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Tommy Carter and Chris Mozingo spent many hours of their youth around Carol’s table drinking sweet tea, and she loved them as if they were her own. Carol also treasured the many friendships she formed through work, church, and the communities where she lived. Among those special relationships, Billie and Teresa Byrd were the very best neighbors anyone could hope to have.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for Carol throughout her illness. Special thanks are also given to Monica, Nicole, Crystal, and Callista of Amedisys Hospice Care for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
