Brindle Wood Goodwin, 74, of Smithfield, NC, passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2026. Born on November 2, 1954, in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Lester B. Wood and Eloise W. Dunn of Benson, NC. Brindle was a graduate of South Johnston High School and spent most of her life as a devoted homemaker.

Anyone who knew Brindle knew her profound kindness and unconditional love for her two girls, five grandbabies, McDonald’s unsweet tea, peanuts, and cigarettes. She never met a stranger. Those blessed to be a part of her life learned many valuable lessons from her, such as: take lots of pictures, spend time with those you love, trust in the Lord, never throw anything away, document your life and adventures, don’t let anyone run over you, antiques are better than new, always do right by others, and never be late—always be early.

Brindle is survived by her daughters, Shannon Anderson (Brandon) of Four Oaks and Jessica Thompson (Neal) of Brogden; her cherished grandbabies, Bryson Creech, Graceson Creech, Waylon Thompson, Cason Thompson, and Stella Thompson; her special companion, Dennis Stewart of Sneads Ferry; her brother, Larry Wood (Gail) of Benson; and many close friends and family members.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC. Brindle will be laid to rest privately by her family.
