Selma – Bobby Ray Hawley, age 88, entered into his eternal home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield. Born, February 12, 1937, in Johnston County, he was a son of the late George Vernon Hawley and Ila Peedin Hawley. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy Godwin Hawley, brother, Harold Glenn Hawley, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hawley, sisters; Joyce Hawley Fitzgerald, and Brenda Sue Hawley Crocker. Bobby was a long-time member of Pleasant Plain Original Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors, especially working in his yard after retirement. He worked for many years as the sales manager at Heilig Myers Furniture store in Smithfield. In his later years he grew fond of the squirrels in his yard, they were his little friends and would even eat from his hands. Bobby was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to many.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Selma Memorial Gardens with Rev. Archie Brock and Rev. Billy Nowell officiating.
He is survived by his brother, Jackie Hawley (Judy) of Hampstead, sister, Sandra Parrish (Frankie) of Micro, nieces & nephews; Michelle Adams, Ken Hawley, Sheila Fitzgerald, Russell Fitzgerald, Stephanie Johnson, Greg Parrish, several great-nieces and nephews and caregiver, Rae Lynn Quick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pleasant Plain OFWB Church at 1991 Old Beulah Rd, Selma, NC 27576.
