Betty Lou Herring, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born January 7, 1933, in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Ora Rose Cuddington and Benjamin Lee Cuddington. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her brothers, Alton Cuddington, Donald Cuddington, and Bennie Cuddington; and sister-in-law, Carol Cuddington.
Betty grew up on a farm, where she learned the value of dedication and perseverance at an early age, qualities that remained with her throughout her life. She was known for being stern and strict, yet beneath her strong exterior was a deep love for babies and children, who always held a special place in her heart. Family was the center of Betty's life. For more than 40 years, she cherished making memories with her loved ones during annual vacations at White Lake, a tradition that brought joy and strengthened family bonds across generations. She had a special love for flowers, especially roses. She enjoyed preparing meals for those she loved, spending time searching for treasures at yard sales, and creating a home filled with care and tradition. Betty will be greatly missed.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 13, 2026, from 5:00pm-6:30pm, at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 14, 2026, at 10:00am, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. Flowers are appreciated.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Edward Lavon Herring; children, Frankie Herring (Donna) and Bettina Howard (Johnnie); chosen children, David Ivey and Tonya Forte (John); sisters, Ollie Martinez (David), Rose Carroll (Milton); half-sisters, Pat Cuddington, Judy Underwood, and Faye Starling; grandchildren, Ashley Howard, Morgan Selfridge (Adam), Paige Petticrew (Corey), J.D. Howard (Sydney), Daniel Herring (Jordan), and J.T. Bryan (Victoria); and great-grandchildren, Mason, Kendall, Katie Faye, Ellen Grace, Lealon, Lainey, and Laken.
