Smithfield – Ashley Gene Spain, age 80, died Saturday, February 6, 2021 in WakeMed in Raleigh. Born November 12, 1940 in Pitt County he was a son of the late Ernest and Mimcie Boyd Spain, Sr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Roberts Spain; brothers, Ernest Spain, Jr., Earl Spain, Irving Spain, and Jimmy Spain; and sisters, Joyce Spain, AnnieLee Nunn, Betsy Mills, and Dorothy McLoughlin. Ashley was a member of Yelverton Grove FWB Church in Smithfield. He enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Yelverton Grove Church Cemetery with Rev. Joe Ballance officiating.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Spain; son, Ashley Lee Spain and wife Nikki of Smithfield; grandchildren, Ashley Walt Spain, Lee Kramer, and Dalton Kramer; sister, Yvonne Spain of Greenville; sister-in-law, Margie Spain; stepchildren, Angela Wainright and husband John of Clayton, Karen Free and husband Jason of Four Oaks, and Brad Ferrell and Beth of Wendell; and step grandchildren, Cody Wainright, Kaitlyn Free, Tyler Ferrell, and Colby Ferrell.
